Secca d’Acqua is the latest musical project by singer-songwriter Vincenzo Maggiore and musician Giancarlo Pagliara. A minimalist album, featuring piano and vocals, it shines a light on the Brindisi that no longer exists, drawing inspiration from the poetry of Francesco Romanelli, one of the city’s last master shipwrights.
Like a short yet intense sound journey aboard a schiafarieddu (a traditional local fishing boat), carried by a slow and silent rowing, the album seeks to restore part of the romantic imagery that once characterized the ancient Sciabiche district.
The album includes a song written and performed with children from a workshop dedicated to rediscovering Brindisi, as well as a cover of the renowned local folk song Va cantu pi te.
A standout track from the album was created through La città che non c’è, a project promoted by Eridano Cooperativa Sociale di Brindisi and Laboratorio Urbano Movimenti. This initiative involved young students from local schools, with contributions from primary school teacher and singer-songwriter Paola Petrosillo, musician Giancarlo Pagliara, master shipwright and Vogatori Remuri president Francesco Romanelli, and singer-songwriter Vincenzo Maggiore. This powerful cultural endeavor aims to strengthen children’s connection to their homeland, encouraging creativity and social engagement—objectives strongly supported by Eridano Cooperativa Sociale.
The album is enriched by the contributions of esteemed musicians such as Giorgio Distante (tuba), Stefano Rielli (double bass), Vito de Lorenzi (percussion), Valerio Daniele (guitars), and Isabella Benone (violin). It also features a bonus track, a heartfelt reinterpretation of Va cantu pi te, originally written by Giovanni Guarino and Alfredo Vitale. The duo’s sensitive rendition has been warmly received by Guarino’s family.
Secca d’Acqua was produced by Eridano Cooperativa Sociale, Vincenzo Maggiore, and Giancarlo Pagliara, with artistic direction by Vincenzo Maggiore, Giancarlo Pagliara, and Paola Petrosillo.
